Bomber from Trader Joeโ€™s Bakersfield called Boatswain American IPA. Nose is light citrus with mild grassy notes along with a hint of caramel malt. Clear copper with a big, heavy lacing, long lasting offwhite head. Flavor is light bitterness with some contrasting caramel sweetness. Finishes with a small bitter hint. not bad drinking for $1.99 but not nearly as aromatic or flavorful as most other IPAs I drink.

Pours hazy gold into a shaker. White head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Mild citrus aromas. Dry with sour fruits and bitter earth front to back.

Fusel alcohol dominated nose with caramel, moss, and cherry notes. Hazy copper, thin head. Alcohol noticeable. Vague bitterness, very artificial flavor. Grainy finish. Passable as an IPA, but obviously cheaply made. At $1.99 a bomber, itโ€™s a worthwhile introduction to styles other than pale lagers for those on a budget.

bottle. not bad, a decent IPA is still better than most others -but it lacked any real distinguishing qualities.

Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 11/11/12, Palindromic Rating #2552

Aroma: The nose is a little off, some fruity notes, a little soap, straw, not great
Appearance: It pours a hazy dark orangish color with a small head and light lace
Flavor: The taste, feels off like the nose, a little bit soap and fruit, and a odd hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a lively carbonation, and a fairly poor mouthfeel/finish
Overall Impression: I'm not a fan of this one at all. I'll make sure to avoid this one going forward. As far as I can tell from the one's I've tried, Minhas just doesn't make good beers.

Pour is a murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma smells kinda fruity but deffinatly no hops. Flavor is a sweet sticky malt with no hops and a awful sourness toward the end. I gotta agree with most that this is weak sauce. Taste like my first attempt at homebrew. $1.99 at trader joes as boatswain IPA.

Bottle - After trying their regular IPA I was hoping this would have the punch necessary. They donโ€™t get it and I am tired of talking about this. At least this one is a bit bitter.

Picked up at Trader Joeโ€™s where it is called Boatswain (and was just un-boxed and put on the shelf) or some such nonsense. The 22oz bomber pours clear copper with effervescent loose off white head. The aroma offers up pilsener malts, sugary malts and mineral notes. At this point Iโ€™m wondering if they neglected to add the hops. If I concentrate maybe there are vague faint hops in the background. The taste is sadly similar and disjointed and basically a mess. I get sugary sweet maybe pilsener like malts and vague to possibly floral bitter hops pulling apart the experience with the help of a mild but odd nonetheless mineral note. This just . . . well, not sure what this is.
