This year’s beer was developed in concert by brewmasters Spike Buckowski of Terrapin, Dan Del Grande of Bison, and REUNION co-founder Pete Slosberg. It is a Belgian-Style Scotch Ale – a nod to Virginia’s heritage. It is brewed to an original gravity of 1078 using 5 different malts and hopped with East Kent Goldings to 35 IBU. It is fermented with a high gravity Trappist yeast and is 7.0% alcohol by volume.

bouteille, merci à Zack. couleur ambre, col blanc-cassé. arôme fruité, malt caramel, pomme, levure type belge. goût, caramel. fruité, sucre brun, finit légèrement amer, garde un profile belge de type levure d’abbaye qui est intéressant avec l’approche du style scotch ale.

Bomber pours opaque copper – amber with thin loose off white head. The aroma has a rich prune, cherry and red apple wedge fruity sweetness rolling into lesser amounts of earthiness and caramel. The taste is bold and rich with dark fruit such as plums, cherries and mildly earthy sweet dates. By midway I get thin ribbons of caramel, malts, earthiness and yeasty spice joining in. It ends sweet and dark fruitiness with a faint sense of roasty malts dryness. Pretty cool brew where a pleasing earthy note grows as it warms.
