Cask at Olde Swan, Netherton (brewery tap). Pours a chrome yellow with a small white head and good lacing. There’s old school hops and lemon in the aroma. In the mouth it has an overall sweetness, but with underlying bitterness. In terms of flavour the hops are to the fore with traces of citrus and lucozade. Finish is slightly bitter. Not bad at all. PS CAMRA says this is a light mild – but I think our categorisation is better.

Cask at the Old Swan. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is light skunky malt. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet with a crisp refreshing woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask half-pint in The Somers Club, Halesowen on 3rd June 2014. Pours a very light golden colour with a white topping that left some impressive lacing. Fairly sweet with a mild citrus background in both the aroma and taste. Malty, smooth, mellow and nice! This was my second ’Olde Swan’ beer of the evening and I thoroughly enjoyed them both.
