The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan has revived an old beer brand from the 1950s as a one-time release. When Johannes Weiss, Weihenstephan’s Sales Manager Export, discovered the 1950’s Kristallweizenbock label, it sparked an idea. “I suggested using hops with ‘crystal’ names,” said Weiss, “smaragd (emerald) and opal. [These hops] add fruity flavors to the beer and complement the name.” From there, Brewmaster Tobias Zollo continued to develop Weiss’ idea, building out the malt bill and other flavor profiles. Kristallweizenbock differs from Weihenstephan’s traditional weizenbock, Vitus, as it is filtered and has a stronger focus on hops, without being too “hoppy.”

Nicely done. Better than all the Krystallweizens I've had like this is a common beer style... Golden clear pour. Florals and banana. Light sweet finish. Bottle.

Brilliant medium golden colour, good two fingers frothy white head, half-way lasting, good fine-grained lacing. Rich aroma, light toasted malts, wheat, banana, yeast, cloves, hint of alcohol. Taste light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, banana, grassy, retronasal cloves and yeast. Sweet and light bitter finish, bit boozy, medium body, oily to creamy texture, moderate carbonation; smooth and tasty, very good, like it very much.

Very much a weizenbock. Big on the banana, classic Weihenstephan yeast. Semi-cloudy, golden yellow. On the sweet side with bready and doughy malts, showing the bock half of the style.

Bottle from Schneiders Getränke, Köln. Smooth mild beginning. The typical Kristallweizen Aroma is there, with the combination of a nice Weizenbock. Hints of alcohol, smooth mild with yellow fruit. Round with not much bitterness in the end. Nice deep and round.
