12 ounce bottle from the brewery. Pours a dark rust tinted brown color with a medium brown head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar and a bit of chocolate. Taste is toffee, molasses, nuts, chocolate and a faint nondescript hop bitterness. Thin-medium bodied. Pretty good beer.

Clear very dark cherry red body with a thin tan head. Sweet molassas aroma. Sweet rum soaked fruit flavor with a molassas background.

Bottle. Wasn’t sure what to expect as Scottish Ales are not my speciality. A bit sweet, with a nice roasty flavor with notes of vanilla. I would agree with the previous person rating this as it did remind me of a porter, I’d also agree that the beer had a "young" flavor that I’ve come to expect with other beers there, but honestly it was quite tasty.

This scottish ale looks, smells and tastes like a micro-porter. Watery looking black with brown hues with a whispy white head. Malty roasted aroma. Initial flavor was very nice, malty, roasted, coffee and sweet. Clean finish with more malt and roast, hides the alcohol well. The best I had at SBC.

Dark in color... NO head. Smells sweet, kinda raiseny. Tastes include licorice and deep strong alcoholish malts; actually very nice until... a lingering flavor of plastic, which I just cannot get over.

Dark brown colour with a dense tan head. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and even a bit of hop freshness. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong sweetness initially with a milky component which melds into a malt background. Aftertaste bittered from the malt, but left sweet. Overall, a good beer, and definately one to try! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle at The Lost Dog Cafe in Arlington, Virginia with JonR888710 on 20-November-2003 - Cheers Jon!
