Bottle, 2020! vintage. Dark chocolate aroma with notes of roasted malt, coconut, coffee, vanilla, whiskey and oak. Pours deep brown with a thin mocha brown head that has good retention and excellent lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and oak flavors as well as having a rich, full body and slick, viscous mouthfeel. Finishes quite smooth with coconut, vanilla and whiskey flavors. Still quite excellent after 5-ish years.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black, with a medium, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is dark chocolate, licorice, pumpernickel, toasted almond, and toffee. Dry and roasty, with a rather assertive bitterness. Heavy body, with a syrupy, clingy palate. This is a quality, aggressive stout.

Another of the beers picked up in Ft. Worth at a Total Wine on Black Friday. Imperial stout, coconut and chocolate, what can go wrong here? My Great Heights snifter receives the goods from the 12 oz bottle tonight, I see a dark, deep brown body with a thinnish light tan head, here and gone. The nose is lightly coconut with some grain and chocolate. But the taste, yes, an improvement. The coconut is understated but there, sharp chocolate, wheat bread, the grain again and a bit of red berries. Anything from the barrel escapes me. Good but not life changing.
