Dark pour from bottle. Lots of roasted malts in this one, hints of coffee beans and espresso. Not as impressive as I had hoped but still fine.

Bottle. Dark brown, slight head, gone in a flash. Aroma, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste, bitter coffee, burnt toast slight coffee. Taste more like a stout than a porter.

12 ounce bottle. Translucent brown color. Big pillowy tan head. Clinging lace. Sweet roasted malt aroma reminiscent of earthy baked bread. Bittersweet roasted malt flavor has bitter coffeeish notes. Some chocolate, soy sauce and cardamom as well. Quite tasty. Nutty, spicy finish.

Bottle: Deep brown with a frothy tan head. Cola, chocolate scent. Taste is rich, semi-bitter chocolate malt, old black coffee, caramel malt. Solidly bodied with an increasing and robust ashy bitter. Very good.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate malt, and dry hay aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Mildly sweet coffee, chocolate toffee malt, and moderately bitter dry hay and ash flavor. Good body. A great porter.

12 oz. bottle from singles shelf of Harris Teeter. Date must have rubbed off. A: Rough pour yields an inch of tan head atop a practically black body. Very good retention and streaks of lace. S: Herbal/floral hops against brown toasted bread and a slight hint of roast. T: Bitter chocolate dominates. Light sweetness rounds out the flavor. Faint raisin. M: Smooth and slick with a good bit of carbonation. Bitter resin finish. O: Nice easy drinking porter. Good taste and body. Available and well priced. Recommended.

Bottle, with a big black pour. In this description it says ruby red but let me tell you, its big and black. First taste is perhaps a little too much personality, then it starts to grow on you. Yes, gets a little more friendly with its burnt dark beer attitude. Malty, perhaps some aspects of super dark bitter chocolate. Perhaps even a tad of black strong coffee but you couldn’t say its a coffee beer. Yes, in the end a]its a pretty even handed porter that never really treads into baltic porter territory, just a good even handed porter that wants to kick you in the ass and be large and in charge but never quite gets there. Even handed and enjoyable.
