While hops and bitterness are all the rage today this beer takes time to explore the complexity and character of malt. This red is really more of a rich scarlet and is created from a wide variety of speciality malts carefully milled together to form a layer of toast, roast, and bisquit with a nutty finish. These are balanced with mild and complementary hops resulting in a beer neither too bitter nor too sweet.

On tap at Fort George, pours an opaque a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma is on the malty side, with bready caramel malt. Flavour is similar, with dry bready malt and not much of a hop content. Dry and malty, with a decent balance. Rather boring but decently made.

2 1/2 oz sample at the brewery yesterday. Hazy brown red hue. Nutty malty nose. Taste starts out sweet before becoming a little sour. Soft carbonation. Pretty good.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a hazy brownish-amber color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Sheet of lacing on the glass. Nutty, malty aroma. Medium, smooth body with roasted nut, malt, and mild hops flavors. The finish is malty with a lingering roasty sweetness. Above average overall.

Draught. Poured red with medium white head.. Toasty aroma. Malty flavour, with fresh toast and biscuitty notes. Enough hop in the finish to keep it from being too sweet.

Draft at the brewpub. A nut brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of grass and caramel - the aroma is a bit too light for my liking. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of rye and bread, leading to a dry bitter and grapefruity finish.
