expecting some sort of barley wine. Had this on tap at Willards Tap House in largo fla. Fairly clear, Nice clean attractive aroma. Initial flavor are spicey or sumthin and comes across rather creamy on the co2. Bitter alky builds thru the session. Medicinal finish.

Pronounced caramel and tea aroma. Hops smell a bit stale which is understandable given the bottles age. Hazy dark copper, thin head. Caramel flavor, strong, with lighter berry undertones. Milk chocolate also present. Medium bodied. Strong french vanilla finish. Not spicy, but malty and delicious.

Received in trade from KarrHeel03, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a stingy white head that recedes quickly but laces the sides quite nicely. Smells of sweet malts and spices. I pick up some cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, plums or prunes, and a touch of alcohol. There’s a subtle spice in the nose that is quite non-descript but really pleasant. Taste is sweet brown sugar and alcohol up front. Dark fruits and a tease of hop bitterness on the tongue mid way through. Medium-dry sweet malty sugary finish. Ample carbonation, slick syrupy mouthfeel, medium bodied brew. I really enjoyed this one on this cold snowy day. I think it all comes together really well.

Dark brown with a red streak, not much head. Kinda ugly. I mean, not real ugly, but not the sexiest brew, either. But then you smell the pint and you pick something sweet, dark, inviting, and with a bit of cocoa, maybe. Kinda tastes like mildly sweet tea with vanilla, chocolate, and licorice thrown in. But putting it that way makes Cold Mountain kinda gross, which it most certainly is not. There’s enough hops to keep the beer from turning into Granma’s Cookie Tin you get every Christmas, but still keeps the essence of what ol’ Granny’s been baking close to heart. Sweet but not too sweet, fairly low ABV for a winter ale, quality cold-weather creation. (12/8/08)

22 oz bottle from my winter 2010 Secret Santa. Pour is mostly clear amber brown with a thick, well formed teo inch ran head. Long lasting head retention, eventually falls with nice lacing. Aroma is dusty caramel malt, round and pretty sweet. Taste is the sweet malt up fruit, though it tastes like sugar coated nuts, along with a vanilla sharpness. Behind this is a spiced yeastiness that closes out the finish, which also reveals some milky creaminess. Not sure how well all of these flavors work together. Palate is medium bodied, coats the mouth a bit, then dries out. It’s interesting, but not entirely my cup of beer. Thanks for all of these beers Santa, they have been fun to try.

Winter 2008 22 ounce bottle from PJs Fast Mart in Sylva, North Carolina. Pours a clear deep red color with a medium tan head. Fair head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel, raisin, toffee, bread, cinnamon. Taste like liquid graham crackers... toastiness, cinnamon, bread, some subtle hops and dark fruits. Medium-full bodied.

Brown-amber. Earthy, lightly hoppy aroma. Cookie, earth and light melony hop. Soft and drinkable winter brew. I like it.
