Smooth, hearty Oktoberfest lager beers have been made for centuries to welcome the harvest season. In Bavaria, brewers would save their best grain & hops to brew their Oktoberfests for celebrating the coming of Fall and the start of the new harvest. This cherished tradition is captured in Hoppin’ Frog’s rich and hearty amber-colored Oktoberfest lager.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Just came today. Do frogs celebrate Oktoberfest? Copper colored pour is topped by a rocky beige head. Aromas of toasted malt and toffee. Flavor upfront is sweet toasted malt, toffee and spicy hops. Medium bodied and flavorful. A bit of baked apple and toasted walnuts in middle. Even some booziness. Overall, a really nice interpretation of this classic style. Prost!

Can from Tavour. Pours ruddy amber with a monstrous tan head that persisted. Aroma is spicy/malty. Med body. Not dry but barely sweet. Some spicy bitterness. So caramel and spice for flavor. Really good.

Caramel with a large foamy head. Sweet with toasty malt, a vegetal note, faint fruit and moderate astringency. Medium finish. Medium bodied and smooth.

Very, very malt-heavy, even for a damned märzen. Loads of caramel, apple, and toast, backed up by some baking spice notes and a touch of floral bitterness on the back end. Hearty and strong, exactly what you’d expect from a Hoppin’ Frog Oktoberfest.

(Keg at Sori Taproom, 20181023) The beer poured deep mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were caramel, sweetness, more sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A way too sweet brew.

200ml draught at Man in The Moon. Clear copper coloured body, naked surface, dotted spots on the glass. Moderate caramel malts on the nose. Mid-sweet malty flavours of nuts, toffee and a backdrop of dried fruits. Rather sweet malt-driven ending. Satisfying. (Stockholm 17.01.2018).

Keg at Man in The Moon, Stockholm. Clear copper colour, small head. Peppery caramel aroma. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Peppery alchohol, doughy bread, noted of cranberry and boiled vegetables. Syrup you peppery finish. Pretty solid American style doppelbock. Oktoberfest it is not.
