A modern take on a classic style. With Bubblegum, peardrops and spice on the nose, 8 is a rich complex golden ale. This beer is full bodied and bittersweet with a citrus hop finish.

Re-rate 26/09/13 - Much as I remember, less bubblegum, more spices. much nicer. Got one left! Original 01/02/13 - 500ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Dalry. Pours a surprisingly dark orange, good head & lacing. Aromas of yeast, coriander and butterscotch. Slips down nicely for 8%, but some lingering buttery notes, along with citrus and Sorachi Ace (the bubblegum referred to on the label I guess?). Finish is short and sweet. Unusual for the style. Might get a higher mark after ageing for a bit, tasted a bit too fresh to me.

Aroma: Pear drops, freshly cut oranges, banana and bubblegum.
Appearance: Murky amber/mahogany body with a thin off-white head than quickly disappears. No lacing.
Taste: Orange, pear, coriander and spice. Quite sweet and yeasty. Interesting flavours.
Palate: Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation.
Overall: A very good take on the classic Belgian beer. Very easy drinking for its 8% ABV. Just lacking a bit in terms of head and body.

Bottle from Deeside Drinks Emporium. It pours deep amber with a medium off-white head. The nose is wood, earth, herbal, raisin, banana, subtle smoke and caramel. The taste is caramel, wood, earth, herbal, metal, candy, banana, wet leaf and some spice with a dry, lightly warming finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Hides the alcohol well. An interesting, well balanced brew.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours a hazy orange with a thin head of lace. The nose has pineapple sorbet with some coriander or even rocket leaves. The taste has dry green leafiness, with a long tangy citrus note, the sorbet thing again. The palate has a medium to full body with a big tangy texture and a long tangy finish. Overall, a really good tripel, which could be Belgian.
