Bottled. Pour is translucent red brown with lingering lacy head. Aroma is malts and dark fruits with a tinge of hops as well as alco. Ok finish but the alco burn wears on you.

(Bottle) Dark amber colour, slightly hazy, with lasting beige head. Malty, fruity, vinous nose with caramel, dried fruit, black-currant, apricot marmalade, treacle toffee and a touch of liquorice. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, black-currant, pears, resin and a vinous finish with a balanced resiny, citric bitterness. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Fairly powerful and vinous, but tasty and quite balanced for its strength. Nice one.

Bottled (backlog). Ambery orange colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some fruity and grassy notes along with mild ripe fruits and alcohol. Flavour is nectar, some alcohol, sweet ripe fruits and some sweet toffee as well. Tasty and a big time brew.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but likely from the January 2011 initial release(282 10 bottle manufacture code). Pours hazy deep reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, biscuit, nuttiness, light chocolate, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, cherry, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, biscuit, nuttiness, light chocolate, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, cherry, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, biscuit, nuttiness, light chocolate, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, cherry, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and fairly slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice English barelywine style. All around good complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruit yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Purchased on my trip to Maine. Pours a clean copper-amber colour with a frothy-creamy warm cap, good retention and dirty lacing. Aromas of caramel malts with some butterscotch notes and some grassy roots giving even hints of mint. The caramel base is there in the taste, but a nice bitterness from the hops get stronger, right into the finish. Gives this one a dry mouthfeel in the end. Gets better with time, got to let it breath. At that point, a decent strong ale - barley wine. Just a little too much diacetyl to be a grew one.

This was poured into a pint glass the first time I had it and the second time I had it I opted for a chalice due to some preconceived notions.
Here’s my take from the chalice.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to brown color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light speckled lacing here and there.
The smell had a decent blend of roasty sweet coffee to caramel to toffee. There’s some light chocolate even going on as it warms.
The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and blended them fairly well.
On the palate, this one sat right at a medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Uh-oh, sessionable Barleywine, hmmmm....well okay, I guess.
Overall, everything seems to be in place to be a pretty good beer until the palate/mouthfeel gets examined. Honestly, it’s just an okay beer.

Cask at the Shipyard Brewhaus on Peak Island. Served in a full shaker. Copper color. Light sweetness and mild hops. Makes me think of a brown ale more than a barleywine. The flavor is ok but I doubt it is 11%. Nice lacing head.

Shared bomber, pint glass. Murky brown. Sweet malty, biscuit nose. A bit of a sweet, sticky malt bomb. Would probably be better with food.
