Cask @ Baum, Rochdale. Somewhere between ruby and amber in colour with a thick creamy head. Clear with a medium-smoked aroma and taste that lingers in the palate.

On tap at Bier Station. Pours a near clear reddish amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of smoked wood with underlying grain and bread notes. Flavor has a light smoked wood throughout with a bit of a bread backing.

750ml bottle. Clear dark amber to mahagony colour with small, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Fruity aroma has hints of cherris and red berries. Taste is minimally sweet and tart fruity, hints of cherries and red berries, a dry touch of fruit parings, in the finish dry hoppy. To be honest: no real smoke detectable; just the remaining impression of the, admittedly, long lasting finish has the potential of being identified with something what one might call ’smoke’. In other respects: simply nice.

Cask handpull. Clear amber color, small white head. Aroma of slightly spiced caramel, subtle edge of bacon. Taste is malty but balanced, smoke is subtle and near the finish. Light body. Not bad.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, King’s Lynn
Batch 0032, brewed 14/12/11, bottled 22/12/11, bb 22/09/12
Dark red-amber color with generous creamy head. The aroma is only lightly smokey, with some earthy malts. The mouthfeel is lean and dry; light flavor of dry and roasty and earthy malts, very light smoke, medium-strong yeast presence, that gives a metallic feeling too; correct bitterness.
It’s somehow an ESB or a dusty Scandinavian ale with minimal smoke.
Not elegant.

On gravity at the Barley Mow, Bristol 20/10/2012. Medium brown with an off-white head. Aroma of wood smoke, caramel and red berries. Flavour had sweet malts upfront, before more fruit and charred wood, leading to a decent, bitter finish. Good.
