Dark brown, dark brown color. Baked cake, fudge, dark fruit with slightly sour nose. Big chocolate cake, dark fruit notes with a touch of rum and baker’s chocolate. Lingering baker’s chocolate finish. Yum.

24th January 2013
Opaque dark brown - black beer. Big pale tan head. Palate is light and airy, semi dry. Light touch of dark malt with a tiny bit of roast and roast bitterness. Nice lactose in the mid. Sharp carbonation as well. Mild coffee. Good hoppy back end - decent citric orange, not too bitter. Touch of pine. Finishes minerally and slightly tangy. Nicely joined up and well balanced. One of the best of the UK brewed porters.

Bottle from Kris Wines. Explosive opening with prolonged gushing that left a quarter of the bottle down the sink. Near black with a huge, frothy tan head. Aroma of black coffee and chocolate, with some grassy hops. Full, slightly oily mouth with some sweetness, more roasted malts and a dryish finish with some hops. Good.

Tap at Redchurch Brewery, Bethnal Green, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a small tan head on top. Roasty, malty, burnt aroma. Tastes roasty, chocolate, coffee, malty. Decent but not as good as their Old Ford Export Stout.

Keg at the brewery tap room, London. Pours dark brown-black with a tight, tan cream head. Dark chocolate in the nose, rich coffee, espresso. Medium swet flavor with heacy baking cocoa, scorched earth, burnt wood, dried dark berries, robust coffee. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation. Lightly warming finish, gourmet coffee, some baking cocoa and earthy bitterness. Exceptional stuff.

Bottle at home, 25th January 2013, this is delicious, dark brown, black with a tan head, aroma is smoke and bitter chocolate, taste is complex, lots of flavours, smoke, some leather and lots Of chocolate with a Pleasant citrus hop finish, reasonably fizzy but it works with this beer. Great stuff

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Toby, 30/12/12. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that reduces to a film and heads egeward. Nose carries hops, pine, dark malt, chocolate, caramelised sugars, hint of coffee. Taste follows, tropical fruits in a hoppy backnote. Full end of medium bodied with soft carbonation, some hop bitterness in a roasted finish. Decent.
