Remember when the pub first had a Westie on? When balance between a rich complex malt bill and hops mattered? Living in the past impedes us moving forward but with an IPA a little nostalgia ain’t no bad thing. Vienna and Munich malt bring amber hues and a touch of bready sweetness to compliment the zest and resinous dankness of Citra Cryo and Simcoe hops.

Can from Valhalla’s Goat. Hazy deep golden body with a few tiny flecks floating beneath an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blood orange, pot puri and dried apricot. Flavour of nutty malt and a bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. A nice west coast IPA with a tasty malty backbone. The hoppy taste lingers beautifully.

Can at home picked up from Cloudwater. A mostly clear deep orange amber coloured pour with a lasting loose off white head. Aroma is woody pine, orange rind, little toffee, biscuit. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, layered malts, touches of toffee, and biscuit, sticky pine, bark, orange rind, sap. Palate is semi sweet, sticky hop, frothy moderate carbonation. Decent.

440ml can delivered from the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester and drunk at home. Reddish amber and clear with a decent-sized off-white head. Malty aroma, with dried grass and light resinous notes. Sweet taste, some light tannic bitterness in the finish. Ripe orange pulp and digestive biscuit aftertaste. Medium carbonation, doesn't overpower. I expected it to be more bitter, but still very very nice.
