Tragically Hopped was designed and brewed as a “classic” Double IPA. We used a blend of Centennial, Simcoe, and Mosaic, at a whopping 3 pounds per barrel in the kettle, and another 3 pounds per barrel as dry hops.We left the crystal malt out of this one, and instead used a combination of Munich and Wheat malt, along with cane sugar to keep the finish clean and dry.

The name Tragically Hopped is a tip of the cap to one of Rob and Lisa’s favorite bands, The Tragically Hip.

Growler from the brewery.
Mostly clear light golden color with a good sized long lasting bubbly white head. Resinous pine and light citrus with hints of tangerine and grapefruit pith on the nose with some faint sweet bready malt at the fringes. Bitter resinous pine up front almost immediately yields to the grapefruit pineapple and mango hop flavors. Sweet bready malt flavor with a hint of honey. Faint green oniony hop flavor. Moderate level of hop bitterness. I had a few samples yesterday and some this growler tonight, this is a damn fine DIPA imho. --- Beer merged from original tick of Great North Tragically Hopped on 28 Aug 2016 at 19:31 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. 16 oz. can. Canning dated 1/10/17. Nice clarity in a golden liquid. Fine steady carbonation. Aroma orange peel, light floral, and a steady amount of pine.

The flavor shows pine forward with the citrus hints in the center. The can doesn’t sate the ABV but it does show some booze. The bitterness is lasting with caramel malt balance. Body is medium with a slight sticky caramel mouthfeel. Pretty old school but good.

Pours deep gold into a snifter. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Pine and resin aromas. Medium bodied with hot caramel and pine upfront turning to citrus and resin in the hot lasting finish.
