This beer is a respectful Orcadian nod to the pale ales of America’s West Coast. Crystal malt gives the beer sweet body and US hops provide plenty of punchy, citrus flavours.

Malts: Maris Otter, Wheat, Crystal
Hops: Citra, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe

Hand-pulled pint in ’The Plough’ Shifnal on 21 Aug 2013. Looked good: bright and golden, with a white head of creamy foam which gave plenty of heavy lacing as the beer level sank down the glass. Hoppy from the start: the nose giving plenty of warning, mild citrus notes in an otherwise dry semi-bitter hop tasting brew. There is a malt presence, but it’s there just to stop the hops taking over completely and preventing the beer becoming too one dimensional. I found the beer both refreshing and rewarding, this is a good beer and mine had been looked after very well by the cellarman. Best beer of the day (only had five though).

Cask at Caley Sample Rooms. Pours yellow gold with thin white head. Aromas of light caramel malts, lemon hops and peach. More on the taste, with a good bitterness, but the bitterness builds into being just a bit too much for a sessionable pint. Nice beer though.

Cask @ Nairn Beer Fest [280213]
Light golden amber, big frothy white head, clear, some lacing
Aroma - Citrus hops, soft grapefruit, touch of grassy hop, some nice zest, light pale malts
Taste of citrus hops. some resinous hop, grapefruit, hint of orange zest, good sweet pale malt in background, fruity quite juicy pale malts
Palate - Medium carb, quite oily. Finish as main flavour, good linger of grapefruit and soft resinous fruity malts
Overall - One of Highland’s best pale ales - I prefer this to the Duke

On cask @ Cloisters Highland tap takeover. Pours hazy, golden with a proportionate head. The nose has citrus and caramel with distinctive green notes from Highland yeast. The taste has more of the same, though less citrus and more green herby notes this time. The palate is medium bodied, creamy in texture with a dry refreshing finish. Overall, another well made light hoppy ale from Highland.
