At the beginning of September Steve and Sir John went to Pridewood Farm near Ledbury to witness a hop harvest.. Hop bines grow up tall trellises. We saw them being picked and dried. Hops are normally dried before packing and brewing. We collected some Goldings hops straight off the bine before drying. In this condition, like any raw plant, they are subject to spoiling quickly, so we raced back to Durham on the Thusday evening and put them in the cold store ready for brewing in the morning.
The fresh hops were used late in the boil for massive aroma. The finished beer is very pale with a sharp, spicey bitterness and a hint of orange peel. This is the result of lots of goldings for bitterness. Sir John hopes that this beer will bring the trend around to English hops and hop aromas. There is nothing like the aroma of a Golding Green Hopped beer.

York Tap, Cask. Light haze on this pale gold beer, decent white head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Very light malts. Mildly spicy floralness that has a suggestion of soap. Light and bitterish finish. It’s fine if you like gren hop Goldings.
