Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels
This 12 month barrel-aged version of our award-winning Expedition Stout thirsts for travel, but is perfectly content to sit in your cellar, maturing, until you are ready. The tough part? Deciding if you want to enjoy it now or wait until later. You can't go wrong either way.

(On tap @ CBC 2016 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours black with a deep tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, charred wood and grains, heavy dark malts, coffee, wood, moderate bourbon, light vanilla, dried dark fruits, touch umami, leathery. Flavour is similar, an abundance of rich chocolate, dried dark fruits, deep dark bready malt, moderate bourbon, light earth, charred wood, moderately heavy burnt grain, vanilla, leather, not quite fudge but still nicely rich. Medium-full body, no substantial alcohol heat, nice creamy carbonation. Respects an awesome base beer by not overpowering it completely with barrel like so many bourbon-aged stouts. Super.

Bottle poured into a snifter showing translucent rims and coffee brown center. The nose shows a lot but balanced notes of molasses, smoke, and vanilla. Very bourbon forward. The palate is medium to full bodied and very lightly carbonated. Bourbon forward with a noticeable vanilla background. Strong espresso/strongly roasted coffee bean presence throughout and on the finish. Big and complex with a mix of smokiness, vanilla, and dry molasses.

12 oz. bottle shared by Willrunforbeer. Thanks man, this is tits! Been awhile since I had the base but... Nose is dark chocolate, brownie batter, nice integrated bourbon. The flavor here tastes like it was aged a few years and it has not, fresh vintage. Rich chocolate integrated well with the bourbon. The bourbon is not hot at all, smooth. The base stout is great, the barrel enhanced it.

Pours black, small grey head. Smell is intense ! You can Smell the bourbon from a distance. Some very deep and thick roasted grainy notes underneath. Taste is thick, full, vanilla, bourbon, oak, silky, very mild bitterness, dark Chocolate. Super silky mouthfeel, soft carbo. Very complex , full , perhaps a tad too boozy, but thats a minor detail on a great beer !

Keg at Brus, CPH, 12/08/16. Pitch black with a well appointed tan cap. Nose is rich in bourbon, chocolate cake, light peppery spice whisper, dates, fruit cake, light coffee. Taste comprises fruit cake, molasses, chocolate, bourbon, oak, toasted sugars, toffee, light coffee. Full bodied, oily throat scuttle, warming alcohol in the close. A big ballsy but well balanced impy stoot .... store high up as this juan is a top draw beer. Good boost machine.
