You can spot a true original a mile off. Like our Original brew. Bristol born and made to stand out. Created from Maris Otter malt and a secret blend of English hops. Meticulously crafted before ‘craft’ was even a thing. Its distinctive bitter, clean and refreshing flavour has been Bristol’s go-to for good times since the 1970’s. From the first sip to the last drop, you’ll never taste a beer quite like it.

Small beige head on a reddish brown body. Malt, tea, caramel & bitter aroma. Medium bodied, sharp & clean. Malt, tea, berries & malt tastes with a long bitter finish. What an excellent pint of traditional Bitter.

Bottle from Wine Rack. Pours a clear dark amber colour with a medium sized thick creamy off-white head. Aromas of caramel, bread, biscuit and a touch of spice. Taste is again caramel, bread and biscuit with a touch more spice and a subtle smooth bitterness on the finish. Medium to full body with a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Nice quality traditional English ale.

500ml bottle from Tesco, Exmouth. Pours clear amber with decent white head, looks fine. Aroma of malts, caramel a little pepper. Taste is same but subtle rather than packed with flavour and there is a nice sweetness running through. It's realtively smooth although does have some carbonation. There is a dry bitterness to finish. Not complex but there is enough here to make this a good bitter.

500 ml bottle, as Butcombe Original Beer, bought in Jersey..ABV is 4.5%.Beautiful clear amber colour, moderate to small head, slightly off-white. Malty and grainy aroma, hints of toffee. The flavour is also malty and grainy with a hint of caramel, but not sweet. Moderate earthy and "dusty" hops. Okay, but not remarkable.
