A rich and robust blend of light, caramel, and dark malts sets the stage for BBC Dark Star Porter’s robust presence on the palate. This smooth but robust porter has complex notes of chocolate and roasted grains balanced by additions of traditional English hops, creating a delicious chocolaty and smooth ale.

On tap at Bluegrass, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, a bit of dark cocoa and earthy notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with stale earthy notes and dull bready malt. Stale and lifeless. Bad.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Chocolate milk, toasted grains and malt on the nose. Bittersweet on the palate. Cacao notes become more pronounced as it warms up to room temperature. A little on the thin-bodied side. Nice finish bitter finish though.

Bottle. Pours deep brown to black with a medium tan head that dissipates with good lacing. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is about the same, roasty and only lightly sweet with a decent coffee bitterness. Lightish body. Not bad but a bit flat and uncomplex.
