Barbapapa was brewed using our insanely tricky, wort-concentrating double mash technique. Imagine making a coffee by adding coffee to coffee and you get the gist but it achieves much more than that. Koelship-hopped with Barbe Rouge, giving berry-like qualities. A rich, smooth, un-artificially flavoured Imperial Stout.

Can at home in Hackney - huge thanks to Garrold. Pours jet black, oily, with a dense, frothy beige head. Wow, quite a toothy stout, great hearty dark malt character, tons of ashy roast, scorched earth, dry baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied, velvety, with delicate carbonation. Lightly warming finish, loads more bitter ashy character, bitter dark chocolate, more burnt earth, woody dryness. Haven't had an old-school stout like this for a while. Nice one.

Tap, at the brewery. Nearly black. Super sticky, lasting, lacing, viscous, tan head. Looks boss. Nose has fruity coffee bean. Vine fruit. Milky coffee. Dark chocolate malt. Bit of a malted milk biscuit thing going on. Taste is sweet and vinous, with a fairly deep, roast malt and coffee bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Fine carbonation. Medium to full body, without feeling the ABV by some way. Long, lingering bitterness to finish. Nice one. Could do lots of this.
