Barley Wine Ale with Raisins Brewed on Devil's Night and boiled for 6 hours & 66 minutes

Short’s first barley wine is a force to be reckoned with! From its batch number, to its identical boil time of 6 hours and 66 minutes, this deep dark amber ale holds some epic warming flavor. A monstrous malt bill creates a full bodied behemoth with high residual malty sweetness of caramel and toffee. These colossal flavors are then enhanced by ample additions of raisins during fermentation.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a hazy dark amber with a beige head. Tart overripe fruit aroma. Medium body, caramel and a tart fruitiness. Ends tart and bitter. Wauw, odd to have an infected beer this strong. 230512

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby with a fizzy head and aromas of rocket fuel and a little skunk. Flavor is straight booze. Can’t quite tell if it is anything short of some of the back hills moonshine or what. I bet you could peel paint with it... Or start a fire... Or run an engine. I wouldn’t drink much of it. It ain’t that good.

At Short’s Brewing Monster Tap Takeover at Churchkey. Dark brown, small tan head. Raisins, eh, raisins, dried fruits throughout the aroma and flavor. Pretty hot, alcohol burn. Not exactly my cup of tea.

Sample from a bottle from an unknown source at One Funky Afternoon at Jackie O’s on 04/02/2011: The beer pours brown with a medium light beige head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt and dark fruits. Medium body with flavors of raisins, citrus and caramel malt. A bit of hops in the background as well. The finish is dark fruits with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.
