On tap at Pizza Port - Carlsbad, pours a hazy dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma has some honeyed malt, light caramel, maybe some bready notes. Flavour is on the lighter side for a wee heavy, with honeyed malt, toasted caramel, and dry bready malt. Light-bodied but has a nice malt base. Good but I want more from a wee heavy.

27th May 2015: on tap at the Carlsbad Pizza Port. Amber to brown body, the head a small beige affair. Malty nose with the molasses giving off toffee and caramel aromas, these carried on into the taste which was sweet and malty also. Mild bitterness arrives mid-sip and stays to give the finish a better balance than the initial taste. I liked it.

Keg at PP Solano Beach, 14/11/14. Chestnut brown with beige edgeing. Nose is perfumed, sweet malt, toffee, light smoke, sprinkle of hoppage, candied fruit peel. Taste comprises candied orange peel, sweet licks, floral, toasted brown sugar, red grapefruit, canfy bar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok Scotch affair if a little overly sweet.

On tap at the brewpub. A clear dark brown one, topped by a small dense light beige head. Dried fruits, tobacco, mocha notes and roasted malts in the aroma, really lovely. It’s super smooth on the palate, faintly warming, full body. Lots of flavors too, sweetness and some bitterness, as well as all the good stuff found in the flavor. Long finish with a good chocolate touch. Plain wonder malt forward beer. 130813

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a murky dark brown color with a minimal off-white head that recedes to an outer ring quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of earthy malt, caramel and dark fruit. Medium to full body with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and some peat. The finish is smooth with a lingering dark malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
