Bottle, big thanks to Wingmanwillis and his brother, split on the train to Windsor 17/03/15. Black with a decent tan cover that retains well. Nose is light charr, pine, red berry fruit, raisens, spice, light cocoa, liquorice. Taste is a little thinner than the aroma with pine needle, bitter tropicana, earthy hop, roasted tones, red berry tang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Respectable enough CDA.

Bottle. Extremely dark maroon color, large fluffy beige head with good retention. Aroma of peppery pine boughs on a background of long black. Taste is bright pine with roasted coffee grounds and bitter cocoa. Exactly what a black IPA ought to be. Delicious.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Clear very dark brown with nice beige head. Predominant hoppy aroma, hint of caramel. Tastes starts off hoppy and quickly recedes into a chocolatey roasted mouthfeel. Dry finish, medium body.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of lightly toasted malt, a little char, and some piney hops in the background - not as hoppy on the nose as many black IPAs out there. Flavour is similar, bringing out lots of roasted / toasted malt upfront, transitioning to dry piney hops on the finish. Not the hoppiest or full-bodied of black IPAs, but pleasant enough flavours and kind of a thin palate. Good stuff, but leaves a little to be desired.

500 ml bottle. Pours black with light head. Aromas of spruce and dark, sour over-ripe fruit. Maybe a hint of chocolate. Definitely American hoppy flavors, grapefruit and pine, but lacking in malt to balance. Nice but not great.

From a 500ml bottle on 2/10/2012. Pours a dark amber with a small head. Has a moderate fruity, hoppy aroma with just a hint of chocolate. The flavour more full on with an interesting mix of roasty, resiny bitteress, set off against some sweet citrus fruit and touch of toffee. The carbonation is typical of an IPA. All in all, an enjoyable, high quality black IPA.
