A decade in the making. After years of hypothesizing and planning, the long-awaited collaboration between Category 12 & Dageraad has moved from theory to reality. To celebrate our tenth anniversary, we’ve crafted Theoretical - a Belgian-style ale that embodies our shared passion for experimentation and excellence.
Brewed with meticulous attention to detail and a touch of whimsical curiosity, this quadruple offers rich notes of dark fruit, caramelized sugars, and a warm, complex finish. It’s a toast to friendship, innovation, and a decade of daring to brew differently.

473mL can, pours a deep dark mahogany brown with a small beige head. Aroma has a slight metallic tinge, with lots of dark dried fruits, dry toffee, bready notes, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is fairly complex, with a dry, woody, bready caramel, and a touch of spiciness. Not exactly authentically quad-like, but it’s a nice dark Belgian-influenced strong. Pleasant.

Amber, with slight haze. The aroma has a bready, toasty character, with some light fruitiness. On the palate, it's got some dryness in the finish, a good bit of alcohol, with fruity complexity. Solid quad, no weirdness, dried fruit, hits the style well.

473mL can. Pours clear amber with a beige head. Nose comes across a little dusty and tired, but there is a dry Belgian yeast and some darker malts. Flavour has a dry Belgian yeast character; a touch of bubblegum, cloves and other spices. Malts are well-calibrated: dry with a touch of ashy roast. This comes together very well, much more complex on the palate than it was on the nose.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Clear-ish orangey copper with small off-white head. Phenolic, estery, thin, some dark sugars, a touch boozy, Dageraad didn't help much here. Meh.

500 ml bottle. Pours mahogany with light head. Aromas of raisins, mineral water, biscuity malts and a bit of Christmas cake spice. Flavors follow same with additional copper/metallic elements and earthy yeast. A very North American version of a Quad with the typical metallic elements and more earthy yeast than a typical Belgian. Good enough.
