Just like cheap horror movies have ruined the Rottweiler’s reputation, have cheap and strong lagers ruined the name of double bock. But just as every dog-person knows, the Rottweiler is a big-hearted and loyal companion, every beer enthusiast knows that double bock beer has a dignified history.
This strong, malty and sweetish beer was the „liquid bread“ that got the monks in the old days to survive the Lent happily. Carried by the theme of bread, this beer is rich in rye malt.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is formidable rum, lots of raisins, sweet dark malt, caramel, oak, alcohol, and notes of cane sugar. Flavour is sweet and moderate bitter. Body is a little above medium. Fairly boozy and heavy on the rum, could be a lot more balanced.

Danke aan martjoobolut. Süffig, dunkel malziger Beginn. Rum, Holz, Vanille. Trocken, minimal herb, angenehm würzig. Vollmundig malzig, wenig Alkohol. Lecker. 10/11/10/10/10/10

(Keg at CBH2017) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was small and nearly white. Aroma had vanilla, malts and rhum. Palate was full bodied and dryish with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, wood, rhum and bitterness. Aftertaste had rhum, sweetness and bitterness. A weaker version than the ordinary one. But the barrel ageing was overdone.

Bottle shared for Floris’s Leaving Beers at Gekke Geit. Brown with a ring tan head. Aroma of malt, booze, oak, fruity notes and raisins. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet. Medium to light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared at Floris’s leaving tasting. Dark brown with thin greyish ring head. Big sweet malts and massive rum. Salty seawater, peat. Moderate sweet and quite bitter. Tap @ craft beer Helsinki. Poured mahogany color with a thin white head. Aroma has rhum, malts, fermented fruits. Flavor has rhum, light vanilla, ripe fruits and sweetness. Warming finish.
