Slightly hazy red - brown beer. Short lived white head. Semi dry palate. Rich malt but it’s not creamy. Some fruity Port Wine character with a little marmite and molasses. Finishes dry with a little fruit. Not what I was expecting at all! Hides the alcohol well.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a orangey head. The aroma has notes of fruits, alcohol, yeast, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruits, malt, caramel, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a ruddy orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit and hops. Full body with flavors of grainy malt, hops, caramel and fruit. The finish is hoppy up front and leaves a lingering citrusy hops aftertaste. Good Barley Wine overall.

2010 bottle thanks to goryshkewych. Poured into a snifter. Pours with a minimal tan head over a hazy amber body. Aroma of raisins, currants, leather, alcohol, caramel, greenery, and plums. Flavors of caramel, toffee, bitterness, marmalade, jam, currants, raisins, decadence. Really a pretty solid young barley wine. Alcohol is well hidden. Someone trade me a bottle of the (hopefully) up coming barrel aged version, cause that will be awesome! Small bubbles, big body, classic! Pairs excellently with the veal paprikash I had for dinner!

Courtesy of markwise. Pours clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is modest in strength offering up a thin ribbon of dark fruity esters, a mild caramel note and a touch of booze at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth with sweet malts moving into prunes, raisins and cherries. It then becomes sweeter with a layer of caramel as well as modest layers of citrus like notes such as tangelo and pineapple. Yum!
