The dark Leireken, also with buckwheat, also tasted as Leireken Boekweit Bruin. Light beige, mousse-like head, dark chestnut colour, lightly cloudy. Sweetish caramel profile with weak spicy accents and buckwheat sourishness, bit tart, roasted bitter accent in the finish. Could (and should) have been softer to be truly enjoyable.

24/VIII/13 - 33cl bottle @ Bierweekend Lambiekstoempers (Alsemberg) - BB: n/a (2013-796) Thanks to T. for sharing today's beers!
Clear dark orange to pale amber beer, what's so "Bruin" about this one? Creamy off-white to yellow head, very stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very soapy, floral, orange peel, bit of caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: spicy, some honey, brown sugar, bit soapy, citrus. Aftertaste: some caramel, metallic, citrus and soapy. Very mediocre, and I'm really being kind here.

Bottle from Asao. Nutty, spicy nose, caramel and chocolate, minerals. A bit dull, though. Dark brown with orange tints, fine head. Sweet caramel, nuts, pepper, fruits. Nice, rather interesting and like a dubbel, though the blond was nicer.

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark reddish brown body under a small, light beige head. Dried fruits, brown sugar, yeast hints and a spiced touch on the nose. A touch of malts too. The flavor is sugary and fruity, with a touch of spices. Thin on the palate, low on carbonation. Fruity and sugary finish, dried fruits more than fresh fruits. Some goods things here, but not impressing in any way. 111126

Bottled at the Belgian Embassy in Oslo. A bit unclear, brown body, topped by a beige head. Caramel-sweet nose with roasted malt as well. Sweet flavor too, with caramel and a weak spicyness. Medium body and a sweet finish with some caramel and spices. I think this is the best of the Leireken series, the others I sampled were a bit too special. (070103)
