Virvendus, Estonian for ripple. As ripples grow, they turn into waves. Much like the craft beer movement, what started as a ripple, turned into breweries making waves. From the other side of the world, Pohjala, hailing from Estonia have been making waves in the craft beer world with some of the best beers on Earth. When the opportunity to collaborate arose, we wanted to make a beer that worked for both our wheelhouses... So, a Baltic Porter aged in STARWARD whisky casks using some uniquely Australian ingredients such as Voyager red gum smoked malt and Tasmanian pepperberries was born.

From a 375ml can (shared with Ed and Butz). Pours a deep brown with not much head. The nose gives you some cellared, choc, soy and whisky notes. Taste follows suit with that typical Baltic porter aftertaste. Finishes moderately bitter, with some sharp roasty notes and a bit of warming whisky. Has a slightly syrupy palate and moderate to average carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Can. Black. A tan coat doesn't last long. About 13C, a little cooler to start would have worked better. Mocha and fudge aroma with pepperberries, some ointment, youngish whisky. Better integrated upon a taste, with roast, smoke, some brioche, oaked whisky and peppery bitterness. Big flavours but only medium bodied. Good, maybe will improve by winter.
