Eight years ago, we brewed a beer called Deep City for draft in Burlington—named for our place by the lake, in the deep city. When we opened our restaurant, the name carried over, representing both our home and our evolution. Now, we’ve made a canned beer about it.
Deep City Pale Ale (5% ABV) is brewed with Briess Heritage Gold & Pilsen malt, with Citra, El Dorado, & Mosaic hops bringing bright tropical flavors. Expect passion fruit aroma, fresh cantaloupe & mandarin on the palate, with citrus peel & pine to finish.
The label art is by Sarah Letteney [@smallsuture], a VT-based illustrator whose work has appeared in The New Yorker & beyond.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance: semi-clear bronzed copper color with approximately a finger's worth of white to off white foamy yet rocky sort of head which dissipated nicely and left a little bit of messy semi-sticky lace
Aroma: honey blossom-like sweet tones with pulled mango to guava-ish hop notes and a touch of lemon peel; slight piney sweetness further underneath; clean malts
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to bittersweet to bitter quality; brisk finish of floral to mango-like noted sweet dryness
Texture: light to medium bodied; sessionable; pretty good smoothness along the tongue; good carb level; medium to low hop bitterness assertiveness
Overall: pretty nicely done APA that seemed fairly similar to what I remember of the original version of this. Makes me want to do a deep dive into the different hops they used in this version this time around.

Draught @ George Keeley, Manhattan. Clear golden with a foamy whitish head, very faint citrus aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter lightly citrusy taste with faint mango flavor, smooth body, long citrusy finish. Smooth and tasty pale ale.

Canned 1/29/25, drunk 3/5/25.
Clear blonde-golden. Medium-sized, white head, somewhat creamy. Moderate retention.
New age "APA" with no toast, resin, caramel, etc...aka a good version of the beer. Honey-like malts are fairly rich for its size and there's a bit of tropical fruit, a hint of pine and mild citrus. Clean, snappy, bright.
Lightly juicy with earthiness, biscuit, a lean but supportive malt texture and hints of pine and citrus. Lower bitterness but well-balanced. Very easy drinking with a good amount of flavor.
