33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 23.02.2010
Aroma has roasted notes, some coffee and cocoa. Flavour has very well roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and hints of cocoa. Finishes dry and slightly ashy. Too roasted and dry, the drinkability is not very great here.

Aroma has cocoa, vanilla ice cream, some ash and red wine notes. Flavour is somewhat acidic and stinging with red wine, some cocoa and hay. Also a feeling of aging (moldy cellar tones?) on some sips. Tart and acidic finish. The tartness harms the drinkability of this.

Bottle from Hallamshire House, Sheffield BBE 29/01/13 [140414] 4.1 (average of both scores)
Out of date bottle this time
Aroma is superb, sweet dark fruits, rich sweet dark malts, no burnt notes, sweet dark raisin, dab of blackberries, really complex nose
Taste as aroma, rich dark fruity malts, sweet dark raisin, soft dark chocolate, again almost no burnt roast, bit of Pelforth brune dark malts in there, tastes great
Palate is soft carb, smooth, really good sweet raisin dark malt and rich dark malts that glide of the palate.
This aged bottle is just superb - might have been lucky with this one but itโ€™s certainly a 4.2 9/4/8/4/17

Black, big rich fluffy tan head, good lacing
Aroma - rich dark malts, hint of treacle, slight hint of soy, hint of dark chcocolate, mellow rich dark sweet malts
Taste - rich sweet mellow rich dark malts, velvety chocolate and soft treacle toffee, complex dark malts, so smooth, alcohol well hidden, big dark malt flavour
Palate - soft carb, full body, oily, silky smooth. Finish as main flavour, rich luxuriant dark malts, slight dry mellow bitter linger then smooth dark malts
Overall - I though this was only going to be a bit bitter than the Guinness Foreign Stout - Itโ€™s a lot better, lots more body and really smooth dark malts. Excellent!

Black colour (suprise...) with a beige head. Rather thick consistency. Nice aroma with some roasted malt, coffee and a bit fruity. Suprised by both consistency and taste. Lovely mild espresso, toffee and some fruity notes in the flavour. The best Guinness I have had actually! And I do not fancy Guinness from a bottle normaly.

330ml bottle. Opaque black with huge firm creamy lacing tan head. Fruity aroma like dark berries with decent dark malty and roasty addenda, a salty touch. Dry dark malty taste, slightly roasty, increasingly dry and roasty toward the finish, a salty note. Lasting dry and roasty finish.

Bottle. Black with a small head. The aroma was rather weak with some notes of roasted malt, bread and some smoke. The taste was dry and a bit better than the aroma. Medium body.

33cl bottle from Kihoskh. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and smoke (reminds me of bonfire). I guess the notes of smoked wood comes from the roasted malt, anyway - itโ€™s quite nice. Quite sweet, but well balanced with a subtle bitterness. Smooth and creamy with a mideum body. Easy to drink, and the alcohol is very well integrated. The smokey aroma was the biggest surprise for me, I did not remember that - just that I liked it. It is still a quite nice stout, although a bit to sweet. Clearly one of the best from St. Jamesโ€™s Gate.
