Dryer, stronger, less sweet than their FES. Well roasted, burnt, and bitter. Maybe a bit less complex though very similar. Nice.

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass better. Black as the night, creamy brown head, lasting. Starts strong and malty, also quite dry, more and more woody, notes of liqourice, also a bit smoky. Finish a bit unbalanced. Looks better than it tastes.

Bottle 33 cl. Apperance; black with a huge brown head. Aroma; Choccolate, coffee, licorice but also sweet and fruity sence. Flavor; Chocolate and licorise at first with a dark fruity ending. Nice!

bottle at Kulminator - Pours near black with a big tan head that laces nicely. The aroma is of roast malt and chocolate with a hint of coffee. It tastes of sweet roast malt with mild hops leading into a dry, hoppy, coffee accented finish. It looks great as a Guinness should and to me it’s definitely better than the extra stout and draught.

Black with red-brown highlights, and a disappearing tan head. Delicious aroma of dark caramel, toffee, licorice, prunes and figs, with a vineous alcohol note, and a touch of diacetyl. The flavour has sweet notes of toffee and dried fruits, some roasted malt and a solid hop bitterness. The alcohol is there, but not quite annoying.

March 2013: Dark brown, nice brown head. Deep fruit aroma, with raisins and plums. There is just a little roast. On the palate, this has a slightly creamy texture. The finish might be a bit thin and metallic. There is some strong roast, as well as underlying fruit to lend complexity. There’s a fair bit of sugar throughout. This is similar in character to the FES, but with perhaps a more lagerish finish mixing sweetness and roast. Good brew.

Feb 2009: Amber-dark brown. Fruity-molassesy aroma. Chewy taste with dark, dense fruitcake. Pruney, with lots of depth. Finishes a little bit watery for its size, but it’s one of the better Guinnesses out there.
