Keg at Fourpure. It pours darkest brown with a small light tan head. The aroma is toasty, bitter - sweet, charred pine, perfumed, dark fruits, jammy berry and Dandelion & Burdock. The taste is very dry indeed, bitter, charred wood, ashy, earthy, liquorice, dry wood, coffee grounds, charcoal, jammy berry and plum with a very dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Aroma is pretty nice, but the taste is far too dry to be moreish.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown with a creamy, beige head. Mild phenolics in the nose, faint roast, burnt caramel. Medium sweet flavour with moderate roast character, some bitter char, scorched earth, grape, cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with bittersweet baking cocoa, saison yeast, woody dryness, some dried semi-dark fruits. Maybe a little too bitter. Not bad overall.

On tap at the brewery. An opaque jet black coloured pour with a lasting light tan frothy head. Aroma is big sweet liquorice, cola, molasses, faint green underripe berries. Flavour is composed of bitter liquorice, black malts, medium saison yeast, Belgian phenols, faint green apple, woody finish. Palate is medium light bodied, frothy airy carbonation, slightly creamy. Pretty interesting beer. Dig the liquorice character.
