Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a sly finger’s worth of off white foamy head. Nice pace how it dissipated. Subtle stringy lace.
The aroma had some roasty dried coffee beans over top of spicy earthy hops and then the piney portion opens it up a tad more. Roasty cocoa powder.
The flavor touches the roasty coffee beans to the cocoa powder gently and adds a little bit of char nuanced by the earthiness. Quick roasty aftertaste. Sly dry char finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. Piney hoppy harshness creates enough appropriate bitterness.
Overall, nice black IPA that I would have again.

Draft at the brewery bar. Pours mostly clear deep brown with a creamy khaki head. The nose has a bit of soap, subtle roast, orange rind. Medium sweet flavor with more mellow roasted malts, bitter earth, rindy citrus, some orange, burnt leaves. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Finishes with further rindy citrus, toasty malts, a by of pine and earth. Not bad overall.

Draft at the brewpub. It pours murky darkest brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, charred wood, burnt pine, toast and roasted malt. The taste is rather bitter, burnt pine, chocolate, some astringency, charcoal, earth with a lingering bitter - dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Fairly harsh. Basic cda.
