Literally born in a dream: Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, dreamt that he was at the mystically hidden retreat of Quinannan Falls, somewhere in the boreal north.
Neither Quinannan Falls nor the beer actually existed outside his imagination, but he remembered enough about it to sketch a recipe and label, which was put into full form by Michigan artist Kathleen Kalinowski, the following morning.
The end result is a dry-hopped lager that possesses a crisp, dry bitterness you would expect from a German pilsner, but the use of highly aromatic Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest, evoke the fragrant pine forests that inspired this beer.

5 week old can into a chalice. A: Pale straw yellow with a big frothy white head and a few visible bubbles. Very good retention but little lacing left. S: Lemons, grass and crackers. A little alcohol later. T: Lemony hop note hits first immediately followed by a stiff, dry white toast or woody smack. Ends bitter with bread and a bit of alcohol hotness. M: Soft frothy carbonation washes over the tongue at first sip. Light/medium body with an almost dry finish. O: Good easy to recommend lager on all counts except way too strong.

Can: Clear, bright yellow-gold with a frothy white head. Lemon, grain aroma. Taste is a nice pils bitter, citrus, grain malt. This is a really nice one.

Draft at Beer Run. Clear very pale yellow color, fluffy white head. Aroma of lightly peppery straw. Taste is clean and crisp hay and straw. Very nice.

6oz pour at Smoke and Barrel. Pours a clear gold with some lacing white head. Nose is a mix of lemony hops, yeast, honey, corn. Flavor is solid, lightly sweet, lightly herbal, mild soap, mild honey, a little yeast. Clean finish. Fine.

ChrisOs Crimbo Tasting. Bottle 135/313. Clear pale gold beer. Tidy white head. Light semi dry palate. Lagerish pale malt. Nice hops - light orange and tangerine citrus with pine. Semi dry finish. One day all lagers will be made this way!

Pre GTMW party at Maduro. Filtered yellow-orange. Straightforward beer-beer in a way. Sort of a boho feel.Fruity tropical undercurrents bring to mind summit hops. Very mellow and delicate, flowery. Doughy, interesting tangy finish. Different, well done, adds a delicate saison-ish feel to a lager.

Bottle 750ml. @ chriso [ chrisos festive get-together tasting ]. [ Bottle #135/313 ]. Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, fruity, moderate hoppy, citrus, shoe polish, orange - citrus, light grass - fresh grass. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, well balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111230]
