Our interpretation of the 1858 Whitbread Contract Porter brewed in collaboration with beer historian Ron Pattinson. Heavily hopped with East Kent Goldings to punctuate malt-driven coffee, bread crust and cocoa flavors with notes of tea, citrus, herbs, grass & lavender. This remarkable dark brew finishes earthy and dry, with lingering bitterness.

Can. Poured a medium dark black color with a tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, herbal. Flavor was grassy, chocolate, roast. I liked this, no bells and whistles, but good. At DCBeer share.

Next up @Bluejacket, where they seem to pour more scotch & soda then beer. Very dark brown, not quite black, weak oatmeal head. Sweet burnt bread nose with a little spice. Roasty, slight char sweetness that lingers, creme, ashy texture & bitterness. Thin, cola acidity, too sharp but very OG.

Sampled at the brewery, pours a dark brown with some off white head. Nose has heavy molasses and brown sugar, nutty, some Charleston Chew. Flavor is sweet, nutty, malty, some root beer, burnt caramel. Very dry finish where the bitterness starts to fold in. The pour was a bit cold, which didn't help it.
