When you think about refreshing beer styles, the last thing that comes to mind is ‘old’, right? Well, not in this case, young scholars.
This delicious Altbier, a top fermented ale, matured over three weeks in cooler temperatures to produce a very refreshing (crisp), clean and complex beer. Bordering on dark copper into mahogany in colour, this Altbier produces enticing aromas of bready malts (pretzel), nuttiness (hazelnut) and sweetness of caramel and marshmallow. The tanish head is pillowy - puffy and offers a creaminess with each sip. Flavours of raisin, cereal malts, more marshmallow and a slightly spicy peppery note derived from the noble hops used in the production of this beer. It finishes quite dry with a pleasant grassy bitterness.
Long ago, beer was brewed the ‘old’ way via top-fermentation, then allowed to mature over an extended period, producing the same clean and crisp profile as those newfangled lagers.
The result? A copper-coloured, complex and malty refresher with a clean finish that’ll have you doing cartwheels across the cobblestone streets.

Dark opaque pour, with a finger of tan head that sustains. Taste is solid toasty, bready malt, that's fairy dry, with mild bittering hops. The flavour comprehensively lingers. I enjoyed thia one. Can from the brewery.
