Old Head Red is an American Red Ale that perfectly marries rich malt expression with the classic characteristics of Cascade and Simcoe. Designed for all the Old Head beer drinkers out there, the beer showcases just the right amount of caramel and toasted bread crust character to support the slightly dank and piney notes of the hops.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated September 16, 2024. Aroma is malt forward with notes of toasted bread, caramel, toffee, honey and nuts. Light hop notes of grapefruit, pine and dank resin. Hints of alcohol. Pours a clear, dark amber color with copper and auburn hues and a large, thick, pillowy, tan head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Medium lacing and faint legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderately strong malt notes of toasted bread, burnt caramel, toffee, honey and lighter notes of nuts. Medium high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Light hop notes of pine, dank, oily resin and grapefruit pith. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid red/amber ale. I'm honestly not sure the last time I had a beer of this style. Nice malt profile with a fairly assertive bitterness but lighter hop notes.
