One of the original, new-style, pale ales to be brewed in the UK, Yankee™ is a modern classic. Light and easy-drinking, it’s a beer that showcases the floral and citrus fruit aromas of the Cascade hop, grown in the Yakima Valley in Washington State, USA, projected against a back drop of soft Yorkshire water and golden promise pale malt.

Cask at the Crosse Keys (JDW), City of London. Straw in colour with a close white head; lemony aroma; lemony citrus taste; with some sherbert to finish. A simple, one-dimensional, golden ale.

Can from the Mill, Cambridge. Mid gold with a fairly large white head and considerable lacing. I usually try not to borrow from the commercial description but lychee and white grape, yeah. A hint of saccharin. Slightly bittersweet taste. Unprepossessing but decent. A very very good beer but by no means a great one.

About as close to a bang-average IPA as you can get. Clear golden, light hop, a twist of fruit. Creamy mouthfeel. Nothing good or bad to really set it apart.

Roosters Yankee original pale ale 4.3% can from Whole Foods London. It pours a light clear gold with a fizzy white head. The aroma is floral & perfumey hops which aren’t my thing but nice enough. Light bodied with a raspy carbonation. The taste stays perfumey and floral with a light malt sweetness to it. Not for me, it is a bit meh.
