From cask at The Plough and Harrow, London. A red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted barley and caramel, as well as hints of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt as well as lighter notes of chocolate and roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours dark brown with a foamy, tan head. Quite a bit of dark, cocoa malts and dry-roast coffee on the nose. Flavor is incredibly smooth and well-rounded. Medium sweet, just mild roasty bitterness, some dry, roasted malts, subtle earth, a little bit of bread. Medium bodied with fine, relaxed carbonation. Very light drying on the finish, restrained roastiness, hints of alcohol, light cocoa. Very drinkable if not highly complex.

From cask at The Plough and Harrow. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malty, light breadish and toffee. Breadish and roasted malt into the finish. Nice roasted.

Cask at the William Morris (JDW), Hammersmith. A deep reddish chestnut colour with a loose cream head; rich earthy malt aroma with some chocolate; pleasantly sourish fruit flavours with a solid earthy malt background; the finish is sharp at first, but then develops into a smooth bitter toffee with a touch of smoke. Very pleasant.
