The very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing, crisp finish is achieved by dry hopping. The fruity, citrusy aroma is a nice complement with grilled prawns and spicy foods.

(In early 2014 Alaskan re-formulated their IPA as Icy Bay IPA)

Bottle. Pours a light gold/orange color. Nice 2 finger head dissapates quickly leaving just a bit of retention. Intense floral citrus aromas dominate here (the best part IMHO). Taste is grapefruit bitterness with piney hops and biscuit like malt. Lightly carbonated with a light mouthfeel. A little bitter in the end. Quite drinkable IPA.

Some liquor store in San Diego: Pours an orange colour with a white head. Aroma is citrus for the most part. Grapefruit hops are most prominent towards the middle of the sip. This is not a very intense IPA, but flavor profile and balance are both done right.

Bottle shared at Sander’s place, NYC during a night of heavy beer drinking. Pours clear gold with a sturdy, white foam head. Faintly tangy grapefruit nose with some grass notes. Light to medium sweet flavor with surprisingly mellow bitterness, just light grass, some lemony citrus. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish with light, dry pine needles, a bit of orange and other dry citrus. A very smooth-drinking beer, but pretty standard overall.

On tap at Phyllis’s Cafe and Salmon Bake, Anchorage. Cloudy amber to orange-brown body, thick puffy off-white head. Nose of bitter pine and citrus rind (grapefruit), resinous, backed by caramel and breads. Potent sugary body with citrusy, piny, resinous hops and fleshy peach pit. Sweet, sticky, prickly, and potent. Nice.
