For our second lager we’ve landed on the original beer served at Oktoberfest- Märzen. Rich copper amber colored from the use of German Pilsner malt as well as Munich malt from our friends at Skagit Valley Malting in Washington state. They are a small start-up malt producer and making very high quality stuff. You can expect notes of toffee and freshly baked bread crust with a creamy mouthfeel accented with just enough noble hop character to keep it from being cloying. 5.8%, 25 IBU.

Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Dextrin
Hops: Czech Saaz

12 oz. can from Total Wine. Pours a clear bronze color with a small khaki head and decent retention. No lacing. Caramel malt aroma. The taste follows the nose with caramel malt flavor dominant and not much else. Good flavor, even though it's one dimensional. Medium-light body. Slick texture. Very low carbonation. Almost flat. Not bitter. Tastes more like a flat Vienna lager. I like it, but it could be a lot better.

Taster at the brewery. Clear, bronze color, with a small, bubbly, beige head. The aroma is toffee, wet grass, pine sap, and dust. Yeasty sweetness, with an off bitterness. Light body, with a syrupy, clingy palate. This is an odd lager.
