Cask at the Alehouse, Reading as Empire Licorice Stout. A glossy black pour with a loose beige head; aroma of deeply roasted malts - not burnt, but very well toasted; rather thin and watery malt taste before the licorice kicks in and fills the mouth; then a dry, lingering, subtle licorice finish. Very moreish.

Cask @ Polished Knob, Todmorden. Black with a thin off-white creamy head. There’s roasted malts in both its aroma and taste, but there’s a fair floral element to the ale too.
