A Strong Scotch Ale. This is a very full-bodied, dark rich brew with a sweet malt character of much depth possessing the flavors of toffee, plums and currants. The hop varietal used in such small amount is English First Gold and can be barely discerned. The target gravity for this brew is 20 degrees Plato and hop bitterness of just 14 International Bittering Units, which is a measure of hop content.

Cask at GBBF 2011. It pours deep brown, with no head. The nose is Dundee fruit cake, sweet malt, brown bread, ginger cake, spice, pear and sweet red apple. The taste is toffee-apple, syrupy caramel, brown sugar, treacle, melon pear and cinnamon, with a sweet finish. Full body, low carbonation and well-hidden alcohol. A decent, sweet "Scotch Ale".

Cask gravity at Gbbf 2011. Riach very deep red brown colour. Lasting beige head. Thats a barley wine. Some malt sweetness some sweet orange flavours. Touch of dryness on the finish. Warming sipping pleasant strong beer. Its a half decent beer.

Brewpub 4oz pour: Pours a darkish brown woody type color jawn with a whitish head. Aroma is of darkish fruits, toffee and sugar. So let me just say right off that this beer did not piss me off. Scotch ales sometimes piss me off and this was not one of them. It didn’t have that one taste that I find particularly annoying in some examples of this style. In any case, this was a sweet beer with almost no hops. Plenty of fruitiness and candy were to be found. Easy drinking considering its flavor profile. I could have had a whole pint.

Growler pours a translucent, deep brown with a thin white head. Nose is fairly mild, a little malty, a little sweet, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little fruit. Full bodied, slightly hot. Forgettable.
