This new beer’s name celebrates the historic Cinque Port Confederation, which dates from Norman times, and has been brewed especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is deep chestnut in colour and has been hopped, appropriately, five times throughout the brewing process, resulting in a distinctly hoppy nose and fruity palate throughout.

Cask at the Forest Gate JDW, Chester. Poured deep ruby brown with a medium head. Aroma was fruity malt and coffee. Had a bready and coffee start with a fruity malt, coffee medium bitter finish.

Spoons Fest! Clear brown beer, short tidy white head. Light dry palate. Mildy toffee - nutty and biscuity malt leads to some apologetic orangey hop. Finish is dry. In fact the beer is typically Sheps dry - ie a bit too much so.

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto, JDW, Folkestone. Mid brown colour, lasting cream head. First out of the cask, saw it being pulled through and put on. Some Sheps yeast and malt, reminds me a bit of a mix of Kent’s Best and Late Red. Great condition in mouth. Very drinkable. Some slight spicy peppery hop sting flavour on the swallow which is pleasant. OK bitter. Sheps have brewed worse. This is quite fresh tasting too.
