Hybrid between a Russian Imperial Stout and Oud Bruin.

Opposites attract. This sweet sour marriage combines the viscosity and robustness of a Russian Imperial Stout with the winy delicacy of our flemish red ale. Tasting this beer is like a Sovjet bombardment on your senses that throws you from Moscow to Modena and back, to find balanced somewhere in the middle. The aroma reveals chocolate, raisins and Syrup de Liège, with a sense of port wine. The thick, sweet start creates the expectations of an antitussive that pampers the throat. The tantalizing sourness when you swallow, though, crushes that expectation immediately, so you have to start all over again. Comrades, unite and drink this oil of brotherhood!

Keg at Salt Horse. Pours black with the merest tan head. Aromas of Christmas cake and sherry, dark chocolate and liquorice. Taste is light sour, then rich dark chocolate and more sherry. Very rich, but surprisingly easy drinking.

Growler from Moeder Lambic. Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma is salad sauce, balsamico, mayonnaise, light funk. Body is medium, lightly sour, herbal and spicy, no carbonation, but there are typical impy stout flavours lurking behind acidity. Palate lingers on sweetness and balsamico. Good!

On tap at Brewdog Bruxelles. Pours dark brown, small tan head. Fruity, caramel, quite sour, vinegar, roasted malts, oily, not easy to drink. Usually not a fan of vinegarish stouts but this was not that bad.

Sampled from tap at ACBF 2017. Very dark brown to black with a beige head. Sweetish, sourish, moderately fruity and slightly roasty aroma of dark chocolate, vinegar, cherries and wood. Moderately sweet, slightly roasty-malty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, some vinegar and hints of dark ripe fruits, followed by a medium long, moderately tart, slightly roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!
