Hybrid between a Russian Imperial Stout and Oud Bruin.
Opposites attract. This sweet sour marriage combines the viscosity and robustness of a Russian Imperial Stout with the winy delicacy of our flemish red ale. Tasting this beer is like a Sovjet bombardment on your senses that throws you from Moscow to Modena and back, to find balanced somewhere in the middle. The aroma reveals chocolate, raisins and Syrup de Liège, with a sense of port wine. The thick, sweet start creates the expectations of an antitussive that pampers the throat. The tantalizing sourness when you swallow, though, crushes that expectation immediately, so you have to start all over again. Comrades, unite and drink this oil of brotherhood!

On keg at Small Bar, Bristol. Pours black, thin cream head. On the nose it’s light balsamic vinegar & red wine barrels. Taste is similar, sweet & sour. Full bodied, doesn’t taste it’s strength. A fabulous sour stout

3 February 2019. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke & Pieter! Hazy dark brown-black with a slowly thinning, beige head. Aroma of pure balsamico, wood, vanilla, milk chocolate, praliné, dried fig, raisin, mocha, caramel, peanuts. Taste is light to medium fruity sour, balsamic vinegar in balance with sour cherry; medium malty sweetness announces chocolate, praliné & vanilla custard notes, whilst a light roasted bitterness contains a touch of coffee, fondant, supported by a nutty & caramelly base. Dryish, peppery & earthy hoppy finish, lingering vinegar, caramel & wood. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Still a very interesting & unusual beer, glad to see this has become a set addition to the Verzet range. Original rating: 9/3/7/4/16=3.9. First tasted at Gents Bierfestival 2017.

On tap at Foeders. Pours black with light head. Aromas of dark chocolate, balsamic vinegar and red wine barrels. Flavors of syrupy chocolate and smooth roasted malts cut with apples, cherry skins and sour dark fruit. I’m not usually a fan of sour stouts but this one really works. Kinda like dark chocolate and cherries. Well done. 13.5% Really? No clue.

Draft sample @ ML Fontainas.

Wow! On tap at Moeder Lambic. Pours inky black with a dark head. Aroma is very intense, dark malt and roasty notes paired with funky sour notes. Lot of dark berries (blackberry, raspberry). Rich, sweet, thick and oily mouthfeel. Sweet and rich taste, some acidity, complex, blackberry and raspberry, dark malts. Finishes fruity and sweet. Great beer!! What a nice twist on an Imperial stout.
