Coffee IPA

With citrus and floral coffee notes on the nose and firm hop flavor on the tongue, this is a unique take on a classic American-style India pale ale. A blend of whole Ethiopian and Honduran coffee beans comprise the dry-hop, while a soft coffee flavor percolates throughout.

Deep hazy amber coloured body with a copper glow and a small, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright grassy hops, some mellow coffee notes, a touch of earth and grain and light sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive coffee and light hop flavours throughout with more of a coffee tea (the cherries of the coffee beans, dried out) flavour than any sort of brewed coffee or roasted bean taste, along with a big dose of hops and grain with a small but noticeable sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows a fairly well-balanced beer with some malts, a bit of grain and earth and a nicely bitter teeter-totter of hops and coffee throughout the finish - nice. Overall, a well-executed coffee beer that shows bitterness in multiple factors, yet leaves some nice complexity all around. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia on 10-September-2017 for US$3,79 sampled at home in Washington on 07-November-2017.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a beer this orange. Hazy, thin creamy tan head, good retention. Any hazier and this would look like carrot juice. Aroma of coffee and some piney hops. The taste is coffee, roast, citrus, pine, pale malt. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.
