The ’double stout’ from this small Virginia brewery, tasted at BXL Beerfest. Thin and immediately opening, pale yellowish beige head, lacing in loose dots, over a jet black beer. Aroma of hot chocolate sauce, tofee, hazelnut oil, candied dates, figs soaked in rum, glue, coconut, nougat, beef stock, soy sauce. Candied sweet onset, candied fig- and even a tad marzipan-like, light sourish touch underneath but this sweetness carries on, candi syrupy even, over a deeply nutty malt body with softly bittering chocolatey edges; lots of warming, cognac-like alcohol in the end, as well as a spicy hop bitter punch - yet it is still the toffeeish, almost syrupy, nougat-like sweetness that prevails in the end alongside this bitterness. Well done, if you like your stouts sweet, thick and boozy.

Thank you for sharing Martinus! Sampled draft @ BXLBeerFest 2017. Black, tanned head. Nose is too herbal for me, umami, soy sauce, Teriyaki sauce. Taste is herbal roast, umami, weird overly bitter, too roasted soy sauce, body is likewise, too much, not my style.
